Rick Rivard has done an extensive amount of research into the history and origins of Reiki, and has stayed in touch with and commented on the work of many original researchers. His site, the Reiki threshold hasmuch information not found elsewhere for students of the history of Reiki. His site is a bit of a labyrinth. it has lots of great information but it may take you a bit to find what you want.
