The following
excerpts are from a short manual that the founder of Reiki,
Dr. Usui wrote and gave to his students. It was written sometime
between 1922 and his death in 1926. I recommend reading the
full text in the book Reiki: The Legacy of Dr. Usui, by Frank
Arjava Petter. (NOTE: I am in process of requesting official

In times
like these, the happiness of humanity is based on working
together and the desire for social progress… I would
like to make this method (Reiki) available to the public for
the well-being of humanity. Each of us has the potential of
being given a gift by the divine, which results in the body
and soul becoming unified. In this way a great many people
will experience the blessing of the divine…
Through
it (Reiki), the human being will be first made healthy, and
then peace of mind and joy will be increased. Today we need
improvements and restructuring in our lives so that we can
free our fellow human beings from illness and emotional suffering…

Usui Answers Questions About Reiki
Q:
Is it necessary to believe in Reiki so that healing can occur?
A: No, since it (Reiki) is different from other psychic methods
of healing, psychotherapy, and hypnotherapy. Assent and faith
are not necessary since it (Reiki) does not work with suggestions.
It makes no difference whether a person is antagonistic, mistrustful,
or refuses to believe in it. For example, it functions just
as well with small children or people who are seriously ill
or unconscious…
Q:
What health disorders can be healed with the help of Reiki?
A: All diseases, whether they have been caused by psychological
or physical factors, can be healed with Reiki…. it not
only heals diseases of the physical body. It can also heal
bad habits and psychological disorders like despair, weakness
(in the sense of weakness of character) cowardice, difficulty
in making decisions, and nervousness… (Reiki can also
be used to treat oneself.)
Q:
(How did you, Dr. Usui, discover Reiki?)
A: I was not initiated into this method by anyone in the universe.
I also did not have to make any efforts to achieve supernormal
healing powers. While I fasted, I touched an intense energy
and in a mysterious manner, I was inspired (I received the
healing energy). …It became clear to me that I had been
given the spiritual art of healing. Although I am the founder
of this method, I find it hard to explain all of this more
precisely.
Q:
Can anyone be initiated into Reiki?
A: Naturally. Men and women, old and young, physicians and
uneducated people who live according to moral principles can
certainly learn within a short period of time to heal themselves
as well as others. Anyone, even someone who has just learned
(the first degree) has apparently received the ability of
healing diseases…. This is the characteristic thing
about our spiritual healing method, that we can learn something
so difficult in such a simple way. …All beings into
whom life has been breathed have received as a gift the spiritual
ability to heal.

The ultimate
goal is to understand the secret method for gaining happiness
(Reiki) and thereby discover an all-purpose cure for many
ailments. If these principles are followed you will achieve
the great tranquil mind of the ancient sages.
Philosophical
Paradigms are changing the world. If Reiki can be spread throughout
the world it will touch the human heart and the morals of
society. It will be helpful for many people, not only healing
disease, but the Earth as a whole. |
