Japan/Kurama photos for your Classes and Meditations

It is a marvelous thing to be able to use pictures of Japan to illustrate your talk of the Reiki's history and origins. Many of these pictures are also powerful meditation tools, allowing the viewer to connect more deeply to these sources of spiritual energy.

Reiki Books

Basic Reiki Books

Reiki: The Healing Touch

The best basic Reiki manual I know, and the one I use for all of my classes. Easy to read with a minimum of dogma. The newest version has a purple cover and includes a number of the Japanese Reiki techniques, just to have these techniques.

Japanese Reiki Information
Reiki : The Legacy of Dr. Usui by Frank Arjava Petter, Christine M. Grimm (Translator)
A MUST HAVE for ever Reiki library. As part of the continuing flow of new information about Reiki from Japan, Mr. Petter has found a short paper written by Dr Usui about Reiki and had it translated into English. Reading his words, for the first time, I really felt a connection to Dr Usui, and what he was really like. As someone who has been teaching Reiki at a national level since 1993, this is pretty amazing.
Original Handbook of Mikao Usui by Frank Arjava Petter and Mikao Usui

This book will show you the original hand positions from Dr. Usui's Reiki handbook. It has been illustrated with 100 photos to make it easier to understand. The hand positions for a great variety of health complaints have been listen in detail, making it a valuable reference work for anyone who practices Reiki. Whether you are an initiate or a master, if you practice Reiki you can expand your knowledge dramatically as you follow in the footsteps of a great healer.

The Hayashi Reiki Manual: Traditional Japanese Healing Techniques from the Founder of the Western Reiki System by Frank Arjava Petter and Tadao Yamaguchi

This book contains information about Reiki as Chujiro Hayashi taught it to Mrs Yamaguchi, who then taught her son Tadao. Excellent resource for insights into Japanese Reiki that can't be found in print anywhere else.

Introducing Reiki to Others

Reiki & You: Awakening the Healer Within (An Ecumencial Guide to Energy Healing) by Margaret Lee Lyles

This is a good book that talks about Reiki in the context of Christian Laying on Hands. Quote from a reader " It addresses the potential conflict some might see between religion (trusting God) and reiki (doing it yourself), and she offers thoughts about reiki that I have seen nowhere else."

Reiki Energy Medicine by Libby Barnett and Maggie Chambers

A Reiki classic, and excellent resource for introducing Reiki to the medical and non-spiritual community. It is very practical, focuses on compassion and results.

Recommend with Reservations
Essential Reiki : A Complete Guide to an Ancient Healing Art by Diane Stein
A book of great pluses and great minuses. A bad choice for your only Reiki book, but not a bad additional reference.
Pluses:
Talks about what it is like to be at different levels of Reiki
Readily available in bookstores

Minuses:
Includes the symbols (big no-no)
Some of research is interesting, some is unclear on how accurate is
Very woman oriented perspective and language
Books on Healing (non Reiki)
Other Books of Interest

One Man's Dream : The Spirit of Rubel Castle by David Traversi

This is a fun, inspiring and amazing book that really brings to life the mystery and audacity of Rubel Castle. Great pictures and stories. Some of my pictures of the castle are under the bio section of this web site.

Music Store
My personal recommendations for music to play in classes and sessions.
Reiki Music (Music I play in my Reiki Classes)

Music I use during attunements. It always sends me into an altered state when I listen to it.

This is my most requested music I play.

Lama's Chant: Songs of Awakening:

THIS PIECE IS CURRENTLY OUT OF PRINT

A Tibetan Lama chants, spreading a pool of peace. Up until recently (july 04) this was the most requested piece of music i played. Hopefully they will reissue i.

Initiation by Gabrielle Roth
Drum Music, Also used in my "Dancing Through the Emotions" class, which is based on her work.
I also recommend her book Maps to Ecstasy.

Watermark by Enya
Very popular and well known piece, that after years of playing I still really like. Her other CD's are good also, but tend to sound very simalar.
Nomad
Modern Australian aborginal rock music, great for dancing, or just raising the energy of the class.
Sacred Sound and Sound Healing Music
Trance Tara

Fantastic trance piece. One of those don't play while driving things.

Om Namah Shivayah: The Blue Pearl Experience

This is an amazing piece. It is a call and response between Guru Mai and her followers. Very relaxing and peaceful. Order it direct from the ashram's web site.

Other Music you might enjoy

This music is not mellow enough to use as background. Most have sound samples. Enjoy!

Bring 'em all In by Mike Scott
The Ghosts that Haunt Me by The Crash Test Dummies
The Superman song is extrodinary. It focuses on how Superman was a great MAN, for being willing
to save the world, and not be paid. To have such great power, and yet have a normal job. Beautiful.
Deep Forest
I use this CD in many of my breathe work classes. Very intense.

Spiritually Oriented Games

Leela : The Game of Self-Knowledge/Book&Game
Every play a children's game called Chutes and Ladders? This is it's original metaphysical predecessor, played by saints and children in India. Each row of squares is a different chakra, and each square concerns a challenge or opportunity of that chakra. Instead of ladders you have arrows that raise your consciousness, instead of chutes you have snakes that lead you back downward. Your path through the game is your metaphysical path through life.

As someone who is not an expert in Indian philosophy, I found the book a bit challenging, especially when all I wanted to do was play the game, not get caught up in the detail of it. If someone would be willing to create a more playable version of the book, with just a few lines for each square, I'd be willing to post it on my web site, www.spirit-games.com

The board design is lovely, and the structure behind the game unique. A must for any spiritually oriented person's collection. The game also replays well, and even after having owned my copy since not long after it came out, it is still a game I come back to, think about and play.

  The Transformation Game
You choose a goal for your life, and this game helps you look at issues that surround it on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. While I have not played it extensively myself, I have a friend who swears by it, and plays it whenever she is at a difficult point in her life. A great and reasonably entertaining way to sit and clarify what is really going on in a given life situation.
