Microlending : Kiva.org
A rare, non-reiki article! Have you heard about microlending? Lending small amounts of money directly to entrepreneurs in the third world, to help them build or expand their businesses. These are loans that are too small to be of interest to banks, but make a huge difference in their local economy. The entereprenuers pay it back as interest-free loan, and then you have the money to loan to another entreprenuer. Kiva assesses their business plan and provides the business support to help them succeed. The loan itself is not tax deductible, because they repay it, but this is a great way we can help people build a better future. You can choose area of the world, the sector they are working in, or gender, or just let Kiva show you some to choose from. The picture above are some of the people I have donated to.
"I wanted to let you know about Kiva (www.kiva.org), a non-profit that allows you to lend as little as $25 to a specific low-income entrepreneur across the globe. You choose who to lend to - whether a baker in Afghanistan, a goat herder in Uganda, a farmer in Peru, a restaurateur in Cambodia, or a tailor in Iraq - and as they repay their loan, you get your money back. It's a powerful and sustainable way to empower someone right now to lift themselves out of poverty."
Go to Kiva.org, and if you decide to participate, mention my email on https://www.kiva.org/thanks/thank-a-friend

Kyoto: Japan Trip and Announcing Next Year's Japan Trip
Kyoto was amazing. It had been two and a half years since I had been there, and it just felt so good to be there. I spent a few days on my own, seeing my friends and getting things ready. Then my tour group came and spent 5 very busy days, and then I had a few days more on my own.
Do you have a place you love to be? Mine is Kurama mountain, the mountain where Reiki's founder, Mikao Usui meditated for 21 days and received the Reiki. Even after writing my book, Reiki's Birthplace: A Site Guide to Kurama Mountain, I just feel so good being there.I had an unusual experience on the plane over, since it had been a few years since I had been to the mountain I actually took the time to read my own book, and was delighted enough to send "I am still thanking you" emails to many of the key people who had helped me write and publish it.
The energy is so strong and clear. My group really enjoyed it as well, hiked the mountain the twice on the official tour, and most of them went back with me on the groups free day. I hiked "the mountain' 7 times, bringing my lifetime total of hikes on Kurama to 108. We did many things, in addition to hiking the mountain, we explored Kyoto, took a bus tour of some of Kyoto's greatest sites, made enameled handicrafts, and spent time on Reiki's most sacred mountain and powerspot. I get such great energy every time I go. It is always a delight to share this with other people. We were also able to go to both Hyakuten's Reiki share, and the Jikiden Reiki share.. A marvelous trip.
Next years tour is being scheduled for mid-may! Details in June newletter but you can begin to mark your calenders.

Phoenix: Oasis of Healing Retreat

So I got home from Japan on Monday March 22, and three days later I am driving to Phoenix for the Oasis of Healing retreat. What an amazing event! I highly recommend that everyone go to 1 to 2 spiritual events per year, and reiki retreats like this are perfect. More relaxed than classes, Reiki retreats are a great time to meet with other Reiki people, and experience new ways of using Reiki. This year Isabelle Hutton gave a great workshop on Reflexology. Saturday night the fantastic Robin Miller (Transcendance, Company of Angels) gave a live concert while we all did Reiki. Many people said this retreat was one of the most amazing experiences in their Reiki lives.
We will be doing another conference in Sedona next year at the same time in late March, including an optional day to enjoy Sedona.
I play Robin's music in all of my classes, often in the morning, and I love his cds, but live, with a reiki audience it is truly extraordinary. Check the energy in the room, and then play this live sound clip of the concert and see for yourself.
