Northern California Schedule

I am continuing to do more classes in Northern California every few months. The next time will be OCTOBER when I am doing both Reiki 1&2 and KARUNA.. I will be teaching Reiki Mastery in November.

The next Reiki 1&2 in Northern California will be in Pleasanton/Dublin (Bart Accessible) in OCTOBER, Oct 4-5

Karuna Master will be at the Embassy Suites in Burlingame (Bart Accessible via airport shuttle) on Oct 11-13

The Reiki Master class will be Nov 22-24, the weekend before Thanksgiving, in Millbrae.

Energy Healing demonstrated in Science Lab

Just as I was getting ready to send out this month's newsletter, someone sent me a reference to the work of scientist Gloria Gronowicz at the Universirty of Connecticut.

The study uses Therapeutic Touch, a form of energy healing similar to Reiki. Therapeutic Touch is a bit more structured, and does not use attunements, but it is otherwise very similar and is much promoted among nurses.

In her study, she demonstated that Therapeutic Touch energy healing significantly stimulated the growth of bone cells and cancer cells in lab dishes.

The cell cultures were divided into 3 group, one set was treated by trained healers. One set was treated by untrained students, one set was not touched. Scientists who later examined them, did so without knowing which set each had been in.

She also did some work with bone cancer cells. But unlike healthy cells, bone cancer cells did not appear to be stimulated by touch therapy.

Dr Gronowicz has been a research cellular biologist for over 20 years with an impressive track record of more traditional experiments. Therefore her work is taken alot more seriously than if it had been done by a more novice or less traditional scientest.

"What she's showing is an association that defies explanation with what we currently know," said Margaret A. Chesney, a professor of medicine at the University of Maryland and former deputy director of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health. "She's Daniel Boone."
Gronowicz and others said more studies are needed to figure out how and why Therapeutic Touch seems to stimulate cell growth — and if the findings can be applied to patient care.

Reiki Research

I am not a member to get the full article, but this was interesting abstract on Reiki being used in a medical cancer (Oncology) setting.

Abstract
Oncology nurses and their patients are frequently on the cutting edge of new therapies and interventions that support coping, health, and healing. Reiki is a practice that is requested with increasing frequency, is easy to learn, does not require expensive equipment, and in preliminary research, elicits a relaxation response and helps patients to feel more peaceful and experience less pain. Those who practice Reiki report that it supports them in self-care and a healthy lifestyle. This article will describe the process of Reiki, review current literature, present vignettes of patient responses to the intervention, and make recommendations for future study.

Trees - Connecting to the energy of the Tree where Mikao Usui recieved energy.

In addition to working on people, I also use Reiki to work with the natural world of trees and mountains and water.

Long Distance Tree Hugging!

In the last part of the online healing class, I talk about how to use Reiki to experiementally determine what has a soul and what doesn't have a soul. In my experience grass does not have a soul, but trees, at least long lived 'special' trees, do have souls. To connect to the soul of a special tree, do a distant symbol to connect to the energy of the tree, and say hello.

If you do not have a special tree in mind, ask to connect to an ancient redwood, a tree you climbed as a child, or most approprieately for Reiki people, the tree known as Osugi Gongen, where we believe Mikao Usui meditatied for 21 days near the top of Kurama mountain.

Connecting to Mikao Usui's Tree

There are different theories about where Mikao Usui may have been exactly on Kurama mountain. But the most widely accepted, and most logical is at a place called Osugi Gongen near the summit. This tree was famous for many many centuries before Mikao Usui came to Kurama and received Reiki. Their is only 1 trail on Kurama which comes up one side of the mountain and down the other, with one notable exception. There is a side trail that loops from the top of the mountain over to Osugi Gongen and rejoins the main trail a little ways down on the back side of the mountain.

Most hikers don't even notice the side trail, and therefore miss the site, and that it part of the point. Osugi Gongen is a meditation spot, with many fewer people hiking through than the main trail. It is a place where you can sit and meditate in peace, without the constant flow of hikers constantly passing by.

There are benches, and a shelter, and when the spring is running, there is fresh water. Where better to do a 21 day meditation, then this famous meditation spot?

Do a distance Reiki symbol to connect to Osugi Gongen. To me it's energy is very strong and deep. It's energy is very And focused mostly in the trunk and the roots. Take a moment to notice the leaves and branches, the fullness of the tree.

Trees are immortal in a very interesting way. The living part of the tree is only the bark and leaves, the trunck and branches are not actually alive. Yet when you feel it's energy the entire tree has energy, not just the surface.

Trees are also immortal in a different way. They seem to live in time differently. Osugi Gongen presided over the meditation area on Kurama mountain for over 1000 years.. It is mentioned in guide books as being an incarnation of the deity of the mountain, including in a guide book written in 1895.

All of you who did this excercise could feel the energy of the tree, but the tree is no longer there. The tree blew over in a hurricane in 1950, it snapped off about 1/2 way up the trunk.

And yet here we are, almost 60 years later, and the energy of the tree is as strong as ever.
