I bring you an update on my book and videos, including some
reactions to my book, plus some ideas for experimenting with
the affect of light on your energy, and recommendations for using

Kurama News
My book, Reiki's Birthplace: A guide to Kurama Mountain has
been birthed into the world. It is now available on Amazon.com,
as well as through me (signed copies) and through the publisher
(especially if you want 5 or more to resell.)
VIDEO NEWS
Film Maker Mo Abersheid and I have been so pleased by the response
to You Tube and Current TV videos that we have plans to do more.
On YouTube Part 1 and Part 3 have about 5000 hits each, and Part
2 has about 8000 hits. (I suspect some people like to repeat
listening to the overtoning
I do on part 2)
We are finishing up a video intro on the book.At the moment
this is
the link, but it may change.. (If the link is broken
when you try this, look in right panel of this page for the
update, or just go to any of the videos on the right and look
for all videos by the same film maker.)
COMING SOON
This Years Japan Trip
I am working with a new agency on the Kurama, Japan trip.
mountain. I am still negotiating costs and dates, and
trying to verify that people who go will not only be able
to go to the mountain, but also be able to study with Japanese
Reiki Master Tadao Yamaguchi if they choose.
Right now the trip is scheduled for Oct 24 to Nov 4.2007. I
will send out an update as soon as I know more.
Kurama Corner
If you have read Reiki's Birthplace, a guide to Mt
Kurama,
please consider writing a review of it on Amazon.com, and
showing it
to your
local book store and encouraging them to carry it. Also I would
love to get it reviewed in different publications, newslettters
and websites. Your help in this books's success is deeply appreciated.
Bringing my book to Kurama
I got the following from my friend Linda Crawford, who has often
been my 'voice' when going to Kurama, and wanted to share with
you her trip to bring my book up to Kurama temple.
At long
last I got up to Kurama today, and gave your WONDERFUL book
to
Sato
San,
who
was
all
smiles
looking
at
it.
She said
in effect that "We've never taken pictures like these! It's
beautiful!" She looked all the way through it while I drank
my cherry blossom tea and cakelet. I told her that it isn't out
yet, small publisher, and she said 'yes, Arizona, right? I said
Oh, you remember it well. I told her that you wanted Kurama (her/
the temple) to have the first copy, and she said thank you. She
smiled the whole time! I pointed out that you put in all the
gods, and Sonten, which she could see as she went along. She
was surprised at the bus schedule and the picture of the toilet.
She said that you are very kind to help people so much. She said
that you have everything on the mountain in the book. I said
that even people who can't come to the mountain can get a real
idea of it, and the book will make people want to come to the
mountain. At the end I sort of thanked Sonten, and her, hands
together.
A Book to Sleep On
I got the following two responses from my book that really surprised
me. I knew there was a lot of ki energy in this book, but I had
no idea. Let me know if you have any similar tools.
...Speaking of the book.......I have been trying to sleep with
it under my pillow. However, it tends to keep me up as wrenches
my neck. The healing effect though makes me want to try alternate
positioning. I might try putting it under the mattress tonight.
I've been having interesting dreams since I've been sleeping
with it in the bed. Mind you it must be in the bed. When its
under the pillow I can feel the energy coming of it enveloping
me. Very cool.

Good Ideas
These are a couple of the experiments that we did during the
recent Reiki Explorer Weekend.
What kind of light for your house?
How do different light sources affect the amount of Reiki energy
between your hands. We used 3 lamps: one flourescent, one incandescent,
and one a 'full spectrum' lamp. We draped a table, and put the
lights underneath so one person could change which light was
on, while the other checked the amount of energy in their hands.
The person testing their energy did not know which light was
on.
The biggest surprise was that different people had different
experiences. Some found that flourescent was better, some found
incandescent better, one found darkness was best. It seemed very
individual.
How hot are your hands?
We live in an age of wonders. As part of the Reiki Explorer
retreat, we did an experiment with measuring the heat generated
by Reiki with digital thermometers. I used the Vicks Professional
Model with an extendable probe, but any digitial thermometer
you find should do..Ideally you want 2 or 3 of them.

(I
got mine at Walgreens, click on picture for link on Amazon)
We did this experiment with different groups of people. In some
cases the practitioners hands were a few degrees warmer, other
times the body was 2 to three degrees warmer. However at the
Explorer retreat, while we all felt the Reiki it was not as dramatic
a temperature affect as some people feel when working on clients
that really need the energy.
I recommend getting yourself a few of these thermometers and
having them at hand to use during a healing session to measure
what is happening if there is a strong temperature affect.
First, spend some time familiarizing yourself with the Thermometer.
Take a bunch of temperature readings. (and get used to the annoying
beep) This particular themometer cant just be rested on the surface
of the
skin, it
needs some
pressure. While the oral temperature is often aroun 98.6, skin
temperature, especially at teh extremities is typically cooler.
I found it took up to about 5 minutes for the temperature
in a given location to stabalize. To take the temperature at
the undarm, i held the thermometer between my arm and my body.
The termperature at this location started at 97.3. I took readings
off and on over the next 10 minutes and the readings went up
to 98.6, up 1.3 degrees.
One of the things i liked about
this thermometer was the probe is extendible, which made it
easier to take measurements without having to pick up the thing
to look at it..
I suggest doing Reiki through a folded up towel so you can measure
the temperature at the clients skin and at the practitioners
hand.. In an ideal world you should also know the room temperature,
and take temperature readings inside the towel.
Then put a folded towel on the table in front of you and measure
the temperature in your
hand as it rests on the towel. Once again just place your hand
on the towel a bit and do nothing.. perhaps watch tv or some
other thing. You dont want to be focusing on Reiki. My readings
for this started at 95.5 and went up to 97.4, or just about 2
degrees over the next 5 or so minutes.
When working on clients during the retreat, hand temperature
went up from 3-8 degrees while measurements were taken, the clients
body temperature went up 1 to 3 degrees. However interesting,
i dont regard these temperature differences as that accurate,
because we were all just learning.
Over the coming months I hope to have better data for you. In
the meantime, try this yourself and tell me what you discover.
