| Part
of the dream for this site was to include hard to find background
material on Reiki. I do not speak Japanese, and at the time
I began this research I had no real intention of traveling to
Japan, so doing historical research on the time period when
Reiki began was a way I felt I could contribute to the understanding
of Reiki. Since
then, I have been to Japan and met with a number of Reiki
people there, and have plans to study with several non-Takata
Reiki lineages beginning in fall 2001. I also have plans to
spend time several days meditating on Mt. Kurama. Over the
next few trips I hope to get the number of total days spent
on Kurama up to 21. (Beginning in 2002, I may offer trips
to Japan for Reiki people - see the classes portion of this
web site)
The
Kanto Earthquake Mikao Usui is described
on the Usui Memorial as having first achieved recognition
for Reiki by doing Reiki in these devastated areas. This short
article presents facts and figures on the magnitude of this
quake.
Mt
Kurama: Where Reiki began This section
includes information about a variety of aspects of Mt. Kurama,
past and present. It talks about what is special about Kurama's
energy, what we know about Usui's experience, and circumstantial
evidence supporting Hawayo Takata's story of Usui's initial
receiving of Reiki and the Reiki miracles. There is also information
and commentary on the brochure they give out at Mt. Kurama,
and photos of the mountain itself. There is also a section
on the possible origin of the Reiki symbols!
Usui
on Reiki This section includes some of
Usui's own words describing Reiki.
Looking
for Usui in America My quest, so far unsuccessful,
to find records of Usui's trip to America, by looking at microfilmed
passenger arrival records.
Times
of Mikao Usui Was Mikao Usui born into
a time of swords and samurai, or did he live in a more modern
time? How might this have affected the way he saw Reiki?
Who
was the Meiji Emperor Mikao Usui revered
the Meiji emperor. He based the Reiki ideals on the emperor's
words. He included a large number of the emperor's poems in
his original Reiki handbook. Who was the Meiji emperor?
Age
of Mikao Usui A short article on the discrepancy
of dates and Usui's age on the Usui memorial. |
