Reiki and Stress
Stress is a killer, it leads to high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, weight issues, and more. Stress effects mind, body, and spirit in negative ways. Reiki helps people manage their stress so they have an easier time staying positive under pressure, handling challenges, and calming down during difficult situations.
Reiki is amazing at releasing emotional stress from the body. People who receive Reiki typically report a feeling of calm, relaxation. Many people compare it to a touchless massage, a way of really getting the body back to center. Many people experience release of old emotion that has been keeping them back for a long time, but they experience a quick release. People who receive Reiki treatments often look younger and feel better. I also include in classes a number of stress reduction techniques I have developed which are tremendously effective.
Reiki and Sports
Reiki is fabulous for sports medicine. Part of the joy of life is over-doing it a little, be in hiking, or sports, or painting the bathroom.
Reiki gives the body the energy it needs to release the shocked feeling the body gets when we fall or injure ourselves. Reiki helps sooth inflammation and gives the body the energy it needs to heal itself. Sound healing, which I also do and teach, is amazing for relaxing tight muscles, often in 10-15 seconds.
Hiking the Grand Canyon a few years ago, I was seriously exhausted, and aching. I had to stop every few hundred yards and do Reiki on myself, it seemed to restore enough energy to my abused body that I could keep going uphill. I don't know how i would have made the trip without Reiki.
One of my friends and students, Tammy Griffin specializes in Sports Medicine Reiki. Her daughter played in high school and college softball. Whenever her daughter or one of the other girls hurt themselves, she would run out on the field and help them. They were a bit surprised the first few times, and asked some questions. When, however, they saw the results, they started coming to her whenever they needed help. Her website is sportsreiki.net. The picture below comes from her site with the caption "Chronic pain after a long day of pitching can be relieved by just one Reiki session."

Reiki and AutoImmune Diseases
I have found Reiki to be very helpful for people with auto-immune diseases such as chronic fatigue, Lupus, and MS. Reiki is not a cure. Reiki helps mellow the symptoms and gives the people something positive to do on the bad days. I have seen it retard the progression of symptoms improve daily quality. The trick with all of these diseases is to be patient, realize this is a process, and that every day which is better than it could have been is a victory.
If you or your loved ones have one of these diseases, then it can be greatly valuable if the person with the disease and loved ones learn Reiki so they can do treatments. It would still be useful to have a more experienced practitioner come in now and then for more detailed work, but being able to treat daily is important.

Reiki and Persistence Helps Woman Heal from MS

by Valerie J. Kostiw
I was personally afflicted with M. S. with a diagnosis in August of 1981. My symptoms included elastic bands of pain circling my body, weak heavy legs, impaired walking, no mobility upon rising, dropping things, blurred or double vision, severe mood swings, poor or no bladder control, back pain and swelling, impaired speech, pins and needle sensation throughout my body, and my symptoms were aggravated by heat.
I was helped a little by Vitamin E and Allbee with Vitamin C. ACTH treatments brought me out of severe attacks temporarily. Herbs and reflexology also helped.
I took reflexology and Reiki training. One year later I can walk again and I keep improving on the distance. At the start I was lucky if I could walk a block, and today I don't even think of distance or the temperature. I speak much clearer, I seldom stumble over my words anymore. I have no more double vision. I practice Reiki, reflexology and massage without worrying about the strength in my hands. Book and needle work are no longer a problem for my eyes. I am very active in alternative health work, taking classes as well as teaching.
Reiki and Cancer Treatments
Cancer is a very difficult disease to deal with. The cancer itself, the emotions of the event, and the side effects of treatment are difficult to deal with. Even after the cancer is gone, the survivors still feel like there bodies energy is heavily depleted.
Reiki is increasingly used at cancer hospitals and for home care for cancer patients.

They are well-known for their expertise and the compassionate care they are well-known for their expertise and the compassionate care they give to both children and adults. They are leaders in providing patient and family centered care and for the past five years have been ranked as the best cancer hospital in the New England states. Dana Farber Institute believes in treating the “Whole Patient”. They use Integrative (complementary) care to support and encourage the body’s natural mechanisms to recover from illness, by addressing the needs of the mind, body and spirit. Reiki is one of the interventions used in treating the “Whole Patient”. Reiki is offered to all oncology patients, both inpatient and outpatient. There is a charge for outpatient Reiki treatments; however, all inpatient treatments are free of charge. All Reiki Practitioners are staff members. At present there are three practitioners. Brochures are provided to inform patients and families that reiki is available to them. They merely call 617-632-3322 to schedule their session. Staff members can also call to schedule them. A physician order is not required for a patient to receive Reiki treatment, self referral is fine. Dana Farber is a major research facility. Current complementary care research includes patient usage surveys.
Reiki can bring great comfort and help with treatment
Some years ago, I had to go in for surgery to remove uterine fibroids. I was scared and nervous, even though I had a deep sense that everything would be okay, and it was. The night before the surgery, I had a healing night. Roger brought his wife Joan in. She had to use a cane, and he had to help her. She had bone cancer, and had spent 40 days that year in the hospital. Nothing could have put my own little surgery into perspective more than meeting Joan. So we all did Reiki on her, and it was amazing to see her bloom before our eyes. The Reiki filled her up somehow. She smiled, she laughed. She stopped being a ghost of herself, and just started being herself. She felt so good that she walked out to the car without thinking about it, and we had to run after her to bring her her cane.
Joan and Roger took Reiki training. Joan did die some months later. Roger (who later became a Reiki Master) said the Reiki was one of the few things that really helped relieve the pain in the last months of her life, and gave them something powerful to do together.
The purpose of healing is not immortality. We all die. But Reiki can help sooth and ease the process.
Reiki and Chronic Pain
This is the result summary from a scientific paper on Reiki for Chronic pain, published on CenterforReikiResearch.org. To read the full summary, get a free membership at www.centerforreikiresearch.org and go to here.
Effects of Reiki on pain and selected affective and personality variables of Chronically Ill patents
Results
Reiki significantly reduced pain, depression, and state anxiety. Personality change, such as a reduction in trait anxiety, enhancement of self-esteem, and a shift toward a greater sense of internal locus of control, were evident after Reiki. Reiki was also shown effective in strengthening participant's faith in God. The results also showed that men had a significantly greater reduction in depression than women, but women had significantly stronger faith in God after Reiki Treatments. The follow-up showed that Reiki has a lasting effect (up to 3 months.)
If you have health issues, the best way to find out if Reiki can help you is to try it.
